Sustainable House Day - The Nillumbik Trail 2024

Sunday 21 April 2024

Thank you to all of our 2024 Sustainable House Day homeowners, volunteers and attendees for making the SHD 2024 Nillumbik Trail a huge success!

Our 7 homes welcomed over 200 hundred people across more than 300 tours.

You can download the full post-event report here.

Attendees told us:

"Hosts were very passionate, interested and great representatives for sustainability housing"

"The homeowners were fantastic and their tours were really interesting and informative, thankyou!"

Actions attendees plan to take with their new learnings include:

  • diverting grey water and improving water tank design

  • installing solar and batteries

  • upgrading to double-glazed windows and adding pelmets and external blinds

  • draught-proofing, including door seals and adding insulation

  • installing efficient reverse-cycle heating and cooling and heat pump hot water heaters

  • incorporating the information learnt into a new build design

  • booking a scorecard home efficiency assessment

  • switching gas cooking to induction electric

Highlights from our homeowners and volunteers were:

“The excellent, interested and interesting people who came to visit and the feeling of giving to the community.”

"Very respectful and curious attendees, thirsty for knowledge and very supportive, as usual!"

If you'd like to be part of our next Sustainable House Day event as a volunteer or by opening up your Nillumbik home, we'd love to hear from you! Drop us a message here.

We're looking for all types of homes with sustainable features. Whether you've renovated, built new, restored biodiversity on your land, practise permaculture gardening or are still on the upgrade journey, we'd love you to consider sharing your experiences with our community and helping to inspire more people to take practical actions to live more sustainably.
