Supported by the Nillumbik Shire Council Practically Green funding
Bookings are filling fast, homeowners are doing a last tidy and volunteers are digging out their CEN t-shirts - it's all shaping up for a fantastic (and sunny) day for local sustainable house tours on Sunday.
Haven't booked yet? All is not lost! There are still some free tour places available. Make your way to the SHD 2024 web page and browse the information about the seven different houses taking tours between 10am and 4pm on Sunday. Click on 'Book Now' to make your way to the ticketing website.
Can't go? Never fear! You can learn a lot from reading the house profiles of the Nillumbik houses and many more on Renew's Sustainable House Day website. Most profiles include a slideshow or video about the house.
What's it about?
There are scheduled tours running at 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1:30pm, 2:30pm and 3:30pm. Each tour will run for about 30 minutes followed by 10 minutes of question time. Homeowners will describe their journey (so far) in creating a home that is more energy efficient, more sustainable, less costly to run and more comfortable year round.
Some of the homes are sustainable designs while others have been retrofitted to achieve better sustainability. Topics covered will vary from house to house and include:
electrifying everything
heat pump hot water
EVs and charging
solar and batteries
insulation and draught proofing
heat pump heating and cooling
passive solar design
shading
thermal mass
water efficiency
permaculture
and much more!
